HOJT History

The Houston Open Judo Tournament is a premier Regional judo event founded in 1997 by Mr. Jim Haynes and Mr. Louis Lopez.  Currently, the Houston Open Judo Tournament (HOJT) is the only large judo tournament held in the greater Houston area.

In 2001, Mrs. Sheree (Snider) Perez and Mr. Buck Snider of Champion Judo Club assumed responsibility and worked tirelessly to insure the continued success of the tournament.

Six years later in 2007, Diamondback Judo Club proudly assumed the honor of sponsoring the HOJT in cooperation with Ray Williams of  the Clear Lake City Judo Club and in partnership with the Friends of Houston Judo, Inc.

In keeping with the original desire of Mr. Haynes and Mr. Lopez, and the efforts of Mr. Snider and Mrs. Perez, it is our goal to see the HOJT continue to grow and to continue to be a source of excitement, great competition and fun for all judo competitors and spectators.
